P2- Topic: From Idea to Action Date: 22-02-2011
Have you ever done something which was conflicting with your own idea?
For example if you given idea to others about animal rights but you eat meat.
Your action is conflicting with your own idea.
Mr. Toastmaster, fellow toastmaster & Wonderful Gusts. Today, I will take you to the ride where you learn about putting your idea into action.
In general Idea means “A plan, scheme, or method.” Action means “something done or performed”. It’s clear that idea provides a plan and by action we implemented that plan.
Always it’s easy to express our idea but difficult to follow it. We should value our own world. When you tell someone that you are going to do it you need to follow through. Obviously there will be times when you cannot do it, May a situation beyond your control. This may happen once or twice but not on a frequent basis.
In all situations we act as per terrific rules while driving our car similar way we need to act on our own idea. When you give your word to a situation or a commitment, it should be done. You should not make promise that cannot keep.
I would introduce here some example to support my idea action theory.
First example is related to save our natural resources. We teach our children and others “How to save natural resources”. But believe me when our turns come to act on it we forgot our own idea. I would say if you really have idea to save natural resources act on it by simple steps like
-
Use energy saver devices at house
-
Stop taking bath by shower
-
Plants a tree if not possible plant a flower.
-
Switch off your car when it’s stop.
We all agree that plastic bag is dangerous for environment so we should not use. But when we go super market try to get maximum number of plastic bags for own uses.
There are three categories of people with prospective of idea action implementation
Categories I – Always act on own idea on any cost.
Category II – Try to act on own idea but if fails ready to change their own idea.
Category III – There is no match between their own idea and action.
Consider the simple example I have mentioned in starting
Idea: Save Animal’s Action: Eating Meat
Category I: Strict follower of idea so never eats the meat
Category II: If they eat meat feel guilty about eating meat .They say it’s necessary for health or to maintain biological life cycle. Changing own idea.
Category III Saying saves animals but eating meat also. There is no connection in their idea and action.
Friends you decide which category you belongs. You will be happiest person if belongs to category I.
Think about what advice you’ve given recently and tell me to what extent you “practice what you preach”.
Do you really do everything that you tell others to do? It seems that people who give advice but don’t always adhere to it.
As a computer System analyst I have been giving advice to peoples about various computer application related standards like solution design, coding for years and when the time comes to use my own advice, I don’t always do it. Why?
I have only recently realized that this behavior is not just something I do. It’s something many people do.
Since I’ve noticed this happening in my own life, I’ve been making a point to take and follow my own advice. Now those things that I haven’t been doing are being put into action and the rewards are already showing.
I try not to make promises that I can't keep.
Well done is better than well said.
Over to you toastmaster.
